To people in East Iceland because of measles

February 14th and 15th there was a passenger aboard an Icelandair-aircraft and soon after that on domestic flight by Air Iceland Connect, who proved to be with infectious measles.

Other aircraft passengers and crews were as a result informed of the possibility of being infected with measles. It is now clear that some individuals in the aforementioned flights are infected. At the time they were infectious, they went about within the areas of Fjarðabyggð and Fljótsdalshérað. The District Epidemiologist for East Iceland and other employees of The Health Institution of East Iceland (HSA) are working on finding all individuals who might have been exposed to infection and to contact them.

Under these conditions, it is recommended that all persons who are not vaccinated for measles and have never been sick from measles should be vaccinated. Children from 6 months of age may be vaccinated. The organization of vaccinations will be in the hands of the head of the HSA Health Care Division. People are asked to call tel. 470-3081 at 09-12 and 13-15 hrs for vaccination and information – but not to come directly to the next health clinic.

If you by March 22, 2019, get the following symptoms: Fever, cold symptoms, redness of eyes and/or skin rash, and especially if you have never been vaccinated for measles or not been sick of measles in the past, we encourage you to CALL (but not go directly to the next health clinic) the Health Institution of East Iceland (HSA) tel. 470-3081.

A lot of strain is on the information-line 470-3081 and people are asked to show patience. The number of respondents is being increased, and HSA will make an effort to meet all inquiries.
